Taking Action

I don't know if you can tell yet if you follow me at all on social media that I'm a fan of Tulsi Gabbard. Why? She is not an 'establishment Democrat'. She has views that some would say are conservative, some that are centrist, and others that are quite progressive. To me, what she says just makes sense. That pragmatism is also why so many millennials (and older!) fell in love with Bernie Sanders, who has personally endorsed Tulsi. To me, Tulsi represents diversity of background an political opinion to me. If she were my representative, I would very much look forward to voting for her in 2018 and for president in 2020. In that thought of diversity and pragmatism, there is a massive coalition of people and groups growing around the country dedicated to making sure we elect into congress progressives like Tulsi Gabbard and Bernie Sanders. Progressives that don't shift on morals or positions based on how much corporate donors tell them to – because they don't take their money.

So, I've compiled a short list some of the most amazing organizations that are beginning to emerge around the country. I hope that someone with more time and resources than me will stumble across this list, and get energized, and do more with it than I can. I did after all, just stumbled across all of these myself.

I understand that not everyone may agree with every group or effort, but the bottom line is this: Whether you support one or the other, disagree with one's philosophy or the other - the end-goal is the same: take over the Democratic party and elect into local, state and federal government Progressives (or Independents) that do not take corporate donations to reboot the Democratic Party and move this country forward. The establishment Democrats that serve Wall Street won't change, and starting a third party will not get the people we support the resources needed to achieve these goals.

Our Revolution

"Our Revolution will reclaim democracy for the working people of our country by harnessing the transformative energy of the “political revolution.” Through supporting a new generation of progressive leaders, empowering millions to fight for progressive change and elevating the political consciousness, Our Revolution will transform American politics to make our political and economic systems once again responsive to the needs of working families. Our Revolution has three intertwined goals: to revitalize American democracy, empower progressive leaders and elevate the political consciousness."

Justice Democrats

"It’s time to face the facts: the Democratic Party is broken and the corporate, establishment wing of the party is responsible. Republicans now hold most state legislatures, most governorships, the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the presidency. So in 2018, hundreds of Justice Democrats will run a unified campaign to replace every corporate-backed member of Congress and rebuild the party from scratch. This is our plan."

Established by Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks, Kyle Kulinski of Secular Talk Radio, and most importantly, former Bernie Sanders campaign staffers. This team is also working directly with the below team...

Brand New Congress

"Brand New Congress is a campaign to run 400+ non-politician candidates for Congress in 2018 in one unified campaign behind one plan to rebuild the economy, repair our communities and radically reform our institutions. We believe there are obvious solutions to America's biggest problems that the vast majority of Americans would fight for if they were put on the table in a national election. But we don't hear about those solutions because the current bi-partisan establishment agrees 100% on bad trade deals, massive bank bailouts, and supporting the takeover of our economy by the financial industry. It also agrees on mass incarceration, allowing the ultrawealthy to have undue influence in our politics, and inaction against an out-of-control "justice" system. It uses partisan bickering over taxes and spending to cover up its consensus on those things that really matter and to pretend that Americans are pitted against each other in partisan gridlock."

Run For Something

"Run for Something will recruit and support talented, passionate youngsters who will advocate for progressive values now and for the next 30 years, with the ultimate goal of building a progressive bench. We’ll take a chance on people the usual “institutions” might never encounter. We’ll help people run for offices like state legislatures, mayorships, city council seats, and more. We’ll do whatever it takes to get more under-35 year-olds on the ballot."

I personally hope that I can find ways to get involved with any of these groups, if not just locally. During the Obama years, I was merely a spectator, but this past election has pushed me in the direction of activism – peaceful, knowledge-based, and informed activism (I am just a data nerd after all).
